The central egg agency was born from a Nuffield Scholarship
In 1975 Andrew Hignett was awarded a Nuffield Scholarship to study egg marketing in the USA and on his return he shared with the Industry his thoughts of an organization he had seen their which traded uncommitted eggs and at the same time set a true market price. The industry listened and the central egg agency was formed just one year after.
The agency rented offices in Solihull and Andrew was seconded for nine months to set up and act as general manager, John Morris was appointed Chairman and George Ray was taken on to undertake and develop the day to day trade.
1st August 1980 saw Andrew return to his regular job with A E Beckett & Sons. George was appointed general Manager and then Managing Director from where he took the agency forward to where it is today. Sadly we lost George in 2007, after a short period of illness.
It is quite a different agency today from that in 1976 having had to move and evolve with an ever changing Poultry Industry & Market.
